JOBS AND CAREERS

Your chance for the future -
an apprenticeship at brocolor® LACKFABRIK

Practice oriented training, a wide range of different activities, early responsibility as a member of a team and learning by doing are the basic principles of an apprenticeship at brocolor® LACKFABRIK.

PAINT LABORATORY ASSISTANT
Paint laboratory assistants deal with the development, the improvement, the production, the laboratory test and the application of paints and coatings. They know how the recipes of paints are created and how paints are produced. They have learnt how to give paints certain properties, e.g. a different sheen, a distinct tone of color and a faster dry time.

In a laboratory they create new recipes for a given use, e.g. a glossy top coat in gentian blue. In this process they have to consider the different requirements for the product. Will the paint be applied with a roller, a brush or a spray gun and which influences will the paint have to cope with? Paint laboratory assistants know the properties of the raw materials and test their usability for the new paint recipes. In the fields of research, development, and application technology they carry out measurements and studies, evaluate the results on the computer and document them.

Another important subject is the quality control, which also belongs to the area of responsibility of paint laboratory assistants. They are regularly given samples of the ongoing production. After analyzing them they suggest corrections, if necessary.

A close cooperation between the production department and the sales department is the basis for a practice oriented product development and improvement. For this reason you get insights into the production process and the customer service during your apprenticeship.

Safety, the protection of the environment and health are important aspects which have to be considered when the creation of new recipes is started. Corresponding measures are explained during the theoretical training and at work. During the apprenticeship it is taught which substances are used, what kind of hazard potential they have, how residues can be disposed of, how products are marked and what kind of personal protective equipment has to be worn. The requirements for the training are a special understanding of problems of natural science, conscientiousness, reliability and technical skills. The duration of the training is 3 1/2 years. This period can be shortened by six months, if the proficiency is good.

School requirements: a good leaving certificate from a secondary school, particularly in natural science.
